Bangor Daily News to purchase metro magazine

The Bangor Daily News said it plans to purchase the nine-year-old Bangor Metro magazine later this month after announcing Friday that both companies reached an agreement.

Bangor Metro, which publishes 10 times a year, focuses on business, lifestyle and opinion content for the eastern Maine area. According to a January 2012 story by Folio magazine, Bangor Metro had a circulation of 11,000 and was profitable at the time. The magazine's majority investor had been area businessman Jack Cashman, who previously worked under Gov. John Baldacci's administration.

“In a very short time, Bangor Metro has become a popular and well-regarded publication, not only in Bangor but across the region,” Todd Benoit, BDN vice president and chief operating officer, said. “We’re thrilled that Bangor Metro will be joining us at BDN and expect to find ways both publications will be enhanced for readers and advertisers as a result.”

The BDN did not disclose terms of the sale.
