Anthropologie to open first Maine store

Anthropologie, a national upscale retailer that sells clothing, jewelry and home decor, is planning next year to open a store in downtown Portland, its first-ever location in Maine.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Anthropologie will have 8,600 square feet on the ground floor of 60 Pearl St., though it’s currently unknown when the store will officially open next year. Anthropologie is owned by the parent company that runs Urban Outfitters, which opened a store in downtown Portland in 2011.

Anthropologie is among a bevy of national brands and upscale developments that have come into greater Portland and have helped the city gain recognition as a prized destination for quality of life, tourism and top-notch restaurants, as previously reported by Mainebiz.
