Orono startup a top pick in global contest

High Touch Courses, an Orono-based online education company, has trounced more than 550 companies across the world for the 2014 Global Entrepreneurship Week after being named one of 50 finalists that will compete for the top prize this week.

The Bangor Daily News reported that High Touch Courses, which was launched last year by Machias native Elizabeth Chabe, has also been recognized by news network CNBC as one of this year’s “20 hottest startups” in the world. CNBC’s list was based on the list of finalists named in the global entrepreneurship contest.

The winner of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week, which will be named by the end of the week, will receive a trip to Milan, Italy, and a chance to meet with potential investors, along with opportunities to receive other business services.
