Two retailers coming to Bangor in $11M plan

A developer is planning to invest $11 million to bring BJ's Wholesale Club and another retailer to a former Home Depot location in Bangor that has been vacant for about six years.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the developer's conditional use request and site development plans for the former Home Depot at 164 Longview Drive received approval from the Bangor Planning Board on Tuesday.

The development proposal was submitted by BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. and Longview Plaza LLC, which was formed by Massachusetts-based investment firm Saxon Partners for the purpose of real estate development.

The development would be BJ Wholesale Club's third location in Maine, and it's expected to create about 100 full- and part-time jobs as a result, the BDN said. The other retailer located in the 114,500-square-foot building has yet to be determined.

Construction work on the building is expected to begin after the developer finalizes the purchase in late December. The property is expected to open by fall 2015.
