Maine home sales spike in October

Sales of existing single-family homes in Maine spiked in October, increasing by 26.24% over the same month last year, while the median sales price hardly budged.

Maine home sales reached 1,573 units in October, with 1,246 units having been sold the same month last year, according to new data from the Maine Realtors Association. The median sales price last month was nearly flat, at $175,000, a 0.71% decrease from last year.

“The rise in units sold seems to echo what I’ve been hearing from Realtors all across the state,” Angelia Levesque, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said in a prepared statement. “Many buyers hoped to be settled into their new homes before winter, so Realtors have been very busy showing their clients options.”

On a national level, home sales crawled up 2.9%, while the median sales price increased 5.6% to $208,700 during the same 12-month period, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales in the Northeast increased 4.4%, while the median sales price increased 1.2%.
