DEP gives $16K fine to North Yarmouth business

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has fined a North Yarmouth-based furniture restoration business $16,000 for violating hazardous waste rules.

The Forecaster reported that Finely Restored owner and operator Matt Carlson has agreed to pay the fine and remediate any problems as result of the violations from last year.

According to the DEP, ignitable and corrosive wastes and other kinds of hazard waste were being created by the business. The business violated DEP’s rules by failing to identify whether the waste was hazardous, failing to not mark it as such, failing to not keep the containers sealed and failing to store them in an underground tank, the DEP said.
