Luxury apartments among major Bangor projects

Three major apartment developments in downtown Bangor are expected to be completed within the next six months, bringing in 30 new units.

The Bangor Daily News reported that four luxury apartments in the second and third floors of the Merchants Bank Building on Broad Street are among the downtown projects. Property manager Louie Morrison told the newspaper there has been high interest in the apartments.

Another downtown project will see the conversion of the former Darkin’s Sporting Goods building, also on Broad Street, into a complex with 15 apartment units and a first-floor commercial space. Developer Roy Hubbard said four businesses have already asked about the space, which he said will contribute to a “really nice, complete part of downtown.”

The third downtown project is being led by Bangor Housing Development Corp., which is converting the remaining vacant sections of the former Freese’ Department store building into a hub with commercial spaces and apartment units. The director of the Bangor Housing Authority said the apartments will seek to lure young professionals back downtown.
