142-year-old Bangor printing company to close
Bacon Printing Co,. a family-owned printing company in Bangor, will shut down at the end of the month after operating for 142 years.
The Bangor Daily News reported that seven people will lose their jobs as a result. Bacon Printing Co., which had 28 employees during its peak in 1986, said it decided to close because of “economic pressures.” The company was founded by John H. Bacon in 1872.
Dwight King, the company’s production manager, told the newspaper that demand for printing services has dwindled as Internet use continues to grow.
Most of Bacon Printing Co.’s customers will have their services transferred to the Hermon-based printing company Snowman Group, King said.
