Auburn councilors OK Hartt tax break

The Auburn City Council has approved a tax incentive plan for Hartt Transportation’s $5.3 million facility that will help the company pay for utilities and other site work.

The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that the city council’s unanimously approved Tax Increment Financing District for Hartt’s facility will allow the company to receive a 40% refund on taxes paid for new developments. Plans for the facility include office space and a maintenance facility.

Joanna Bradeen, Hartt’s chief financial officer, said the TIF agreement will help Hartt realize its plans for the property after purchasing it in 2007. “After some failed attempts and putting some money out there, it became clear to us that we could not do this ourselves,” she said.
