New restaurant could be one of Portland's largest

Two veteran restaurateurs plan to open a new seafood restaurant on Portland’s waterfront.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Dana Street and Sam Hayward, co-owners of the upscale Fore Street restaurant, recently signed a lease for space at “Building 4” on Maine Wharf, next to Flatbread Restaurant’s outdoor deck.

The currently unnamed restaurant is expected to become one of the city’s largest restaurants, with 7,000 square feet of space and 169 seats. It’s currently scheduled to open next summer.

The newspaper said the plan to open a restaurant on Maine Wharf is a significant move in helping revitalize the pier. Maine Wharf is owned by Stephen Goodrich, former CEO of Powerpay, who has invested more than $4 million into renovating it.
