Lewiston manufacturer lays off 33 people

Elmet Technologies, a Lewiston-based manufacturer, has laid off 33 hourly and salaried workers, but the company has so far declined to release any details.

Lewiston CareerCenter Manager Mary LaFontaine told the Lewiston Sun Journal that a Rapid Response session was held with 20 hourly employees who were laid off last week. The company cut another 13 salaried workers on Friday, the newspaper reported, citing a source who declined to be named.

Andrew Nichols, Elmet's president and chief operating officer, declined to comment to the Sun Journal on Monday.

The newspaper noted that Paul Meister and Eric Scheinerman, two partners at New Hampshire investment firm Liberty Lane Partners, were listed as Elmet's two shareholders in the company's 2014 annual corporate report.
