Portland vacation firm sued for harassment

Festiva Development Group LLC, a vacation company that operated a Portland sales office, is being sued by a former employee over allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination.

The Bangor Daily News reported that an attorney for Tatsiana Crawford initially filed the lawsuit in Cumberland County Superior Court last month, but it was moved to U.S. District Court this week. The lawsuit alleges Festiva supervisors made lewd comments and inappropriate texts to her, leading Crawford to resign.

An attorney for Festiva has denied almost all of the allegations, saying that Crawford misinterpreted nonsexual comments as sexual ones. Festiva admitted that a sales manager referred to an employee as “double D” or “Jenny D,” but said it wasn’t a sexual comment.

This is the second lawsuit being faced by Nevada-based Festiva, which sells partial “ownerships” of its vacation resort networks. Maine Attorney General Janet Mills filed a lawsuit against Festiva in December 2013, alleging that the company and its affiliates engaged in high-pressure sales tactics at its Portland sales office and another location.
