2014 a record year for Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park saw its largest number of visitors last year since 1999, showing signs that the park was able to recover from 2013’s federal government shutdown.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Acadia had about 2,563,000 visits in 2014, an increase of more than 300,000 from the previous year. The park had to shut down for two weeks in 2013 because of a stalemate in deliberations over the federal budget.

Acadia officials also reported a strong year for the Island Explorer bus system, which served over 500,000 passengers in 2014, a 15% increase over 2012’s figure.
