BIW gets $13M destroyer contract

Bath Iron Works has been awarded a $13 million contract modification for work on Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, the Portland Press Herald reported Monday.

A recent Mainebiz feature looked at how BIW is trying to become more competitive in the face of anticipated Department of Defense budget cuts and an expected slowdown in destroyer work. BIW is currently competing against two other shipyards in a bid to win a $12.1 billion contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to build offshore patrol cutters. That bid could help stabilize its workforce.
