Red Claws seek lease extension with Expo

The Maine Red Claws has reached an agreement to extend its lease at the Portland Exposition Building for 10 years, but the professional basketball team is still expected to take up residence at a planned 3,500-seat venue as part of the Thompson’s Point development.

The Forecaster reported that the lease extension, which would begin after its current lease expires in 2019, has been recommended by the Portland City Council’s Finance Committee and will be taken up by the full council soon.

Though the lease extension would keep the NBA Development League Team at the Expo until 2029, Thompson’s Point developer Chris Thompson said the team is still expected to eventually relocate to the $100 million waterfront development, where some tenants, such as Cellardoor Winery and the Circus Conservatory of America, have already been named.

Thompson was named in Mainebiz’s Next List last year.
