Maine home sales increase in January

Sales of existing single-family homes in Maine were up in January, increasing by 8.6% over the same month last year, while the median sales price decreased.

Maine home sales reached 783 units in January, with 721 units having been sold the same month last year, according to new data from the Maine Realtors Association. The median sales price last month decreased 3.9% to $160,000.

“The January sales data is further proof of a stabilizing real estate market in Maine,” Marie Flaherty, Maine Association of Realtors' president, said in a prepared statement. She said despite low temperatures, “the weather appears to be having less of an impact on home buyers decisions this year.”

On a national level, home sales increased 3.9%, while the median sales price increased 6.3% to $199,800 during the same period, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales in the Northeast increased 3.3%, while the median sales price increased 2.2%.
