Teamsters seek to unionize Shaw’s pharmacists

The Teamsters union is seeking to organize pharmacists at Shaw’s Supermarket’s 16 stores in Maine, a move that is being challenged by the regional supermarket chain.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the union filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board on Jan. 20 to represent the state’s full- and part-time registered pharmacists and graduate non-registered pharmacists.

Shaw’s sought to appeal the Teamsters’ petition, but the National Labor Relations Board turned down that request last week. The supermarket chain is arguing that because its pharmacy managers are supervisors, they are not able to join a union.
