Officials say Maine in midst of dairy license boom

Maine agriculture officials reported a record level of interest among farms in the state to get licenses to sell dairy products.

According to The Associated Press, 17 farms have contacted the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Division of Quality Assurance and Regulations seeking a retail dairy license. Another 20 have inquired about the process.

The state agency told The Associated Press the strong interest reflects that more Maine farms are producing artisanal cheeses and raw milk products. Currently, 134 retail dairy licenses have been issued statewide.
