UMaine Law climbs U.S. News rankings

The University of Maine School of Law has climbed 19 positions in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings of the country’s best law schools.

The school tied for No. 110 with Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., in the publication’s list, scoring 37 out of 100 possible points. The school was No. 129 in 2014. UMaine School of Law announced its placement on the list last week.

The rankings, which considered 198 law schools, are based on a peer assessment score, an assessment score by legal professionals, along with the schools’ median test score, median grade point average, acceptance rate and placement success.

“While rankings such as this can never tell the full story of an institution, our improvement on the list reflects our forward progress and our commitment to adapt to the changing economy,” Peter Pitegoff, the law school’s dean, said in a prepared statement. “We extend thanks to our wonderfully collaborative Maine Law Community of students, staff, faculty, alumni and Maine legal professionals for making Maine Law such a strong and distinctive law school.”
