York County health group gets $1.3M grant
The federal government has awarded a $1.3 million grant to York County Community Action Corporation, an organization that provides social service, health and educational programs to low-income residents.
U.S. Sen. Angus King announced on Thursday that the funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is an annual award implemented through the agency's Health Center Cluster Grant Program under the Affordable Care Act.
York County Community Action, based in Sanford, runs Nasson Health Center in Springvale, a school-based health center at Noble High School in North Berwick and a health center at the York County Shelter in Alfred. Combined, the organization serves approximately 3,000 people.
“Health care services are a critical building block for any community,” King said in a prepared statement. “For almost 50 years, York County Community Action has delivered support services — including health care, education and social service programs — to some of York County’s most vulnerable residents, and this funding will assist them in continuing that important mission.”
