Casco Bay Tech Hub closing co-working space

A high-profile Portland co-working space housing a Blackstone Accelerates Growth office and nine other tenants will shutter May 1.

Tenants of Casco Bay Tech Hub’s co-working space received notice by email on Wednesday.

Tom Hall, president of Hall Internet Marketing, which runs the co-working space, told the Portland Press Herald in an email Wednesday that he decided to close Tech Hub so he could reallocate his staff’s efforts toward his company’s mission of providing Internet marketing services.

Hall founded Tech Hub in 2011 as a way to stimulate Portland’s entrepreneurial community.

Buoy Local, a startup that offers buy-local gift cards, has been a tenant since August 2013. Company co-founder Kai Smith told the newspaper that he’s not sure where he’ll seek new office space.

Jess Knox, hub coordinator for Blackstone Accelerates Growth, told the newspaper he’d be looking for new space as well. Knox is the lead organizer for the week-long Maine Startup and Create Week, which also leased space in Tech Hub.
