The longtime executive director of Make-A-Wish’s Maine chapter has been named as the new leader of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber’s board of directors announced Tuesday that Thomas Peaco, who has led Make-A-Wish Maine since 1997, will join the chamber as executive director on May 18. Peaco is filling a vacancy left by Staci Coomer, who left in March for a job in Washington D.C.

“Tom brings energy, excitement, new ideas and a new perspective to the chamber,” chamber President Mike Hall said in a prepared statement. “His first priority is meeting our members and building relationships with area business leaders.”

Hall added: “He is a great listener and communicator and will work to make sure new ideas are put in place to enhance our members’ benefits. Tom is a knowledgeable and respected local fixture who will hit the ground running, making sure our members’ needs are met well into the future.”

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce was formed in 2011 through the consolidation of the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber and the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber.
