Scrap-metal dealer buys Otis Falls Mill

A local scrap-metal dealer has purchased the historic Otis Falls Mill in Jay after its former owners decided to end their multi-year effort to redevelop the property.

The Sun Journal reported that Joe Clark III of Farmingdale, who owns several scrap-metal companies, bought the mill from Otis Ventures principals Mary Howes and Tim DeMillo, with the sale closing on Friday. The 600,000-square-foot mill was bought by Howes and DeMillo in 2009 after being closed down by Wausau Paper Corp.

Clark said he thinks the property has development potential after the buildings are taken down. However, he added, he’s “not going to rush into tearing them down” and he would like to preserve some of the property.
