Rockland to reconsider energy plant proposal

Rockland city officials are expected to reconsider an option-to-buy agreement with a Boston energy company that is seeking to build a natural gas-fired plant on city property

The Bangor Daily News reported that the Rockland City Council will hold a vote on the option Friday after the council at a Wednesday night meeting fell one vote short of the votes it needed to move the proposal forward. Two councilors didn't vote because they were not present on Wednesday. The option would allow Energy Management Inc. to pay $1,000 a month for the Rockland City Hall and the city’s public services garage until it reached an agreement to buy the properties.

Rockland Energy Center LLC, a subsidiary of Energy Management Inc., made the sole bid to buy both properties for $1.5 million. The company said it would invest $200 million into the energy plant’s construction.

Rockland City Manager James Chaousis said the option would allow the city to negotiate terms for a sale agreement with Rockland Energy Center.
