Yarmouth shop founded in 1920s up for sale

Day’s Crabmeat & Lobster, a Yarmouth business founded in the 1920s, is being offered for $950,000 by its owner, who said she’s ready for “something different.”

The Portland Press Herald reported that the Route 1 store has been co-owned by Sandy Owens and her husband, Dennis, since 1988. Sandy Owens said she is ready to move onto something new after working there for 39 seasons, first when she was 16.

The business was opened by brothers John and Charles Hilton at Porter’s Landing in Freeport and was then moved to its current location in the mid-1920s. The business was then sold in 1946 to Robert Neal Day Sr., whose family eventually sold it to the Owens.
