Rockland seeks new retail, office development

The city of Rockland is seeking to redevelop the Tilson Avenue peninsula with new buildings that cater to retail, office and light industrial businesses.

The Bangor Daily News reported that John Morris of Camden-based John Morris Architects was the only one to submit a redevelopment plan. However, since some of the targeted land is private, developers could get in touch with the landowners directly, a city official said.

Land targeted for development is a mix of city-owned lots and lots and buildings owned by Finlay B. Matheson, who owns, among other properties, the former Bicknell Manufacturing plant. The city would like new buildings to have retail operations at the ground level, with office space on the upper floors and possibly light industrial space in the back.
