CEI's Ron Phillips to step down in 2016

Ron Phillips, CEO and president of Coastal Enterprises Inc., is planning to retire next year, nearly 40 years after he founded the nonprofit.

Phillips confirmed to the Portland Press Herald that he will step down in July 2016, which he said will give the nonprofit community development corporation enough time to find a successor. He said he has been working with CEI’s board on this since December.

Ellen Seidman, chair of CEI’s board, said Phillips “has devoted a major part of his life to CEI, and to developing and enhancing strategies for investment in people and places at the margins of society in Maine and throughout rural America.”

Clarification: The story has been updated to clarify that Ron Phillips is retiring.
