Maine nonprofits leader to retire

The Maine Association of Nonprofits announced Friday that Executive Director Scott Schnapp plans to retire within the next year after serving the group for 14 years.

MANP’s board of directors and staff said in an email that Schnapp will step down by June 30, 2016, to do part-time project work in Maine and nationally. The email said Schnapp will use the transition as an opportunity to spend more time with family and to travel.

Under Schnapp’s leadership, the association said its membership has grown from 400 to more than 750, with its Friends of MANP membership growing from 40 to 140.

“We are extremely proud of what MANP has achieved under Scott's leadership,” the email said. “For 13 years he has been an effective voice for the sector and his passion for strengthening the capacity of nonprofit organizations has helped enhance the sector's impact.”

MANP’s board said it has formed a transition committee that will begin searching for Schnapp’s successor over the next few months.
