House says no to bill that would block local minimum wage increase

The Maine House of Representatives rejected a bill on Monday that would block municipalities from raising the minimum wage at a local level.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the Democratic-controlled House voted 83-60 against the bill, which aims to prevent cities like Bangor, South Portland and Portland from enacting their own minimum wage increases. All three cities are at various stages of discussion for raising the minimum wage. The newspaper noted that a disagreement between House and Senate means that the bill is likely dead.
