Nurses union at EMMC signs new contract

A union representing 800 nurses at Eastern Maine Medical Center voted Friday to approve a new collective bargaining contract with the Bangor hospital.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the new contract calls for EMMC to hire 30 new nurses as an effort to improve care delivery for patients. In addition to giving nurses a 6% pay hike, the contract will also give nurses a greater voice in addressing concerns over patient care.

The Maine State Nurses Association/National Nurses United calls the agreement “groundbreaking,” saying that “because we stood together, management had to listen to our concerns.”
