Augusta food distributor plans expansion

Performance Foodservice’s NorthCenter location in Augusta is planning to build a new 50,000-square-foot freezer, but it first needs permission to construct a new parking garage.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the company’s proposal for a new parking lot was expected to be considered by the Augusta Planning Board on Tuesday. NorthCenter has requested a zoning change for a lot across from its Dalton Road location because the lot’s current zoning rules do not allow for a parking lot on that property.

Tim Holt, NorthCenter’s senior vice president of operations, said in the zoning change request that the “rezoning will allow us to move our parking [adjacent to the Dalton Road building] to the new land and allow for an additional 50,000-square-foot freezer.”
