Pan Am to pay fine for Waterville violations

Pan Am Railways will pay $152,000 as part of an agreed-upon settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over violations in Deerfield, Mass., and Waterville.

The EPA said Tuesday that the settlement stems from stormwater management violations at the Billerica, Mass.-based railroad company’s rail yard in Deerfield, according to The Associated Press.

The settlement also covers environmental violations at Pan Am’s Waterville rail yard, where it was previously reported to have allegedly dumped polluted water into a river and failed to maintain a prevention plan for mitigating potential oil spills.
