Proposed solar farm would be state’s largest

Yarmouth-based Ranger Solar is considering to build what would become Maine’s largest solar energy farm in Winslow, but it needs the town to create new rules before moving forward.

The Morning Sentinel reported that the proposed solar farm would cost up to $25 million to build and it would generate from 10-20 megawatts from a site currently under negotiation. The developer plans to apply for a federal solar investment tax credit to support the project.

Town officials are expected to meet for the first time next week to draft an ordinance that would allow for the development of a large-scale commercial solar project. Ranger Solar said it would need the ordinance to be passed by mid-October to help the developer reach its deadlines.
