Argo Marketing Group of Lewiston topped the list of nine Maine companies that were named as some of the country’s fastest-growing private companies by Inc. magazine.

Inc. on Wednesday released this year’s Inc. 5000, the magazine’s annual ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the United States. The ranking is based on a company’s three-year revenue growth, ending in 2014. Companies must have had at least $100,000 revenue in 2011 and at least $2 million in 2014. They also must be privately held and for-profit.

Unlike last year, not one Maine company made the elite Inc. 500 list. And there are five fewer Maine companies on the list than last year. However, six of the Inc. 5000’s nine Maine companies, including Argo, made it on the list for at least a second time in a row.

Here are this year’s Maine companies that made the Inc. 5000:

As of late Tuesday morning, Baltimore-based Carchex erroneously appeared on the Inc. 5000’s Maine list, making the appearance that 10 Maine companies made it this year.
