Agency gives $40K to 5 Maine credit unions

The National Credit Union Administration, an independent federal agency, is giving nearly $40,000 to five credit unions across Maine as part of a competitive grant process.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin announced the grant funding Wednesday. The five credit unions are among 225 across the country to receive over $2 million for the agency’s second grant round.

“Our community credit unions are the backbone of Maine's economy,” Poliquin said in a statement. “This grant shows the NCUA's commitment to helping our credit unions and small businesses.”

Here are the recipients for NCUA’s second grant round:

• Eastmill Federal Credit Union, East Millinocket - $7,500

• Brewer Federal Credit Union, Brewer - $8,775

• Lincoln Maine Federal Credit Union, Lincoln - $ 7,500

• Changing Seasons Federal Credit Union, Hampden - $10,000

• Community Credit Union, Lewiston - $5,500
