Camden National homeless donations reach $20K
Camden National Bank has donated $20,000 to over 30 Maine homeless shelters after launching its Hope@Home program earlier this year.
The bank said Wednesday that it has raised the funds by donating $100 for each home mortgage it finances. It said the counties receiving the largest percentage of donations are Hancock (22%), Knox (20%), Penobscot (12%) and Piscataquis (12%).
The bank has previously said that there are an estimated 7,500 homeless people in Maine and that homelessness increased by 26% statewide in 2013. As many as 250 people stay in homeless shelters for six months or longer, it added.
“Hope@Home has been a precedent-setting program on many levels,” Stephanie Primm, executive director of the Knox County Homeless Coalition, said in a statement. “It has set a new bar for the rest of the business community as an example of collaboration between business and nonprofit leadership for a cause and has helped us educate others about how significant the issue of homelessness is in our communities.”
