Unity College names interim president

Unity College has named a top college executive as its interim president, just a little over a month after Stephen Mulkey announced he will retire at the end of this year.

The college said Thursday that Melik Peter Khoury was unanimously selected by Unity’s board of trustees on Aug. 14 to serve a 30-month term as interim president, beginning Jan. 3, 2016. Khoury has served a number of roles at the college since he joined in 2013, including senior vice president for external affairs, executive vice president and chief financial officer and, most recently, chief academic officer.

“His passion and enthusiasm has been an essential driver of positive change and has played a critical role in crafting and implementing the Unity College Strategic Plan,” Bruce Nickerson, the board’s chair said in a Aug. 15 letter to the college’s community. “Mulkey has firmly established Unity College on the national stage. Now it’s up to us to perform. Broader recognition for the college gives us the opportunity to serve more — and more kinds of — students looking to become the next generation of environmental leaders.”
