Proposed Brunswick train depot moving ahead

The operator of the Amtrak Downeaster said it is moving forward with the construction of its long-proposed layover facility in Brunswick, despite a new appeal filed by its largest opponent.

Patricia Quinn, executive director of the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, told The Forecaster that the authority expects to meet with its contractor, Consigli Construction, within the next week to discuss the facility’s building schedule.

The newspaper said the Brunswick West Neighborhood Coalition, which has long opposed the facility’s proposed location, filed an appeal of the facility’s stormwater management permit, which was approved by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection in June.

Quinn said the authority is “confident this is going to make a big improvement to service and the facility itself will not be as impactful as folks fear it may be.”
