Colby College to buy third Waterville building

Following the recent purchase of two downtown Waterville buildings, Colby College is expected to buy another one for the purpose of spurring economic development.

The Morning Sentinel reported that Colby is lined up to buy 16-20 Main St., which was damaged by a fire in May 2013 and has since been uninhabitable. Plans for the building have not been disclosed yet, but it’s located across from the former Levine’s building at 9 Main St. and not far from the Hain’s building at 173 Main St. — the two buildings Colby purchased in July.

“I’m extremely pleased to see Colby’s continued efforts to revitalize important areas of downtown Waterville,” Mayor Nick Isgro told the newspaper. “This is excellent news for all of the citizens of Waterville as we continue to work with our partners toward Waterville’s renaissance.”
