Lobster plentiful in Maine, but not in S. New England

Lobster stocks are at the lowest levels ever recorded in southern New England, a report by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission said.

The New York Times reported Thursday that many lobstermen have been put out of business by the decline.

The commission’s report blamed warmer ocean temperatures, “putting the animals under extreme stress,” the newspaper reported.

Stocks in Maine hit a record high last month, the commission reported.
