Condos eyed for former Margaritas building in downtown Portland

Luxury loft-style condominiums are planned for the former Margaritas Mexican Restaurant building in downtown Portland, the Portland Press Herald reported Monday.

The developers, Jack Soley, a Portland Planning Board member, and his nephew Daniel Soley, submitted a subdivision application to the city to convert the second, third and fourth floors of the Brown Street building into four condos.

The first floor is for lease or sale as restaurant space, and Jack Soley told the newspaper there is already strong interest in the location. Margaritas had occupied the first and second floors until it closed last month. The upper two floors have been vacant since the 1930s.

Soley said he hopes to have the condos ready by next summer.
