Rapport, a Portland startup that develops software for businesses to track sustainability metrics, won a $100,000 investment from AOL founder Steve Case's investment company during a pitch competition Friday in Portland.

The pitch competition was held at Port City Music Hall by Case’s company, Revolution, as part of the “Rise of the Rest” bus tour that is visiting 10 cities and will invest $1 million in startups.

As part of the equity investment, Case will also advise Rapport’s team, a benefit that is “probably more valuable than the check,” Rapport CEO John Rooks told the Portland Press Herald after the event.

Besides, Rapport, the following companies took part in the competition:

• Likeable Local, a social media automation software company with offices in Portland and New York City

• Dream Local Digital, a Rockland-based digital marketing agency for small businesses

• CourseStorm, an Orono-based company that develops software for online registration for educational programs

• Spring Point Solutions, a Portland-based company developing software for the electric motor and pump sales industry

• iKNO Intranet, a Portland-based introspective software company

• Introspective Systems, a Portland-based software company targeting any industry struggling with big-data challenges

• Lobster Unlimited, a company out of the University of Maine developing products from lobster-processing industry waste.
