PUC to mull investigation in Texas energy company
The Maine Public Utilities Commission will deliberate today whether to open an investigation into the marketing practices of a Texas energy company, the Journal Tribune reported.
Salespeople from the company, Clearview Energy, have been visiting households in the Central Maine Power service area in the past few months to try to switch homeowners over to the Dallas company’s electricity supply.
Representatives from the company were in Sanford last week, the paper reported. One Sanford resident told the paper that the saleswoman from Clearview Energy acted as if she was from CMP. The resident said she initially switched her electricity supply to Clearview Energy, but later called and canceled the change.
The Central Maine Power Company, which delivers electricity but is not a provider, asked the PUC in August to launch a formal investigation into the marketing practices of the company, the paper reported.
Administrative director of the public utilities commission, Harry Lanphear, commissioners are expected to decide today whether to open an investigation.
