Lincolnville dermatology firm agrees to $630,000 settlement

Maine Dermatology LLC in Lincolnville has agreed to pay $630,000 to settle claims involving false billings to the Medicare federal health care program between June 2010 and August 2013, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Monday.

The United States filed a civil complaint Monday alleging that Maine Dermatology violated the federal False Claims Act between June 2010 and August 2013 by billing the federal health care program for providing evaluation and management services to patients in violation of billing guidelines. The dermatology office submitted $314, 908 in false claims to Medicare, the complaint alleged.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Maine Dermatology cooperated in the investigation, which was conducted by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Health Care Fraud Investigator Richard Fairfield.
