Two Maine companies surpass Kickstarter goals

Online crowdfunding campaigns by Maine companies for an all-terrain tripod and a compact pocket knife have well exceeded their fundraising goals.

The Portland Press Herald reported Tuesday that Deep Blue Design and Zootility Tools have tripled the amounts of the original crowdfunding goals they set on Kickstarter.

Scarborough-based Deep Blue Design LLC, founded by Steve Underwood, had raised nearly $100,000 from 841 backers as of Wednesday morning, exceeding its $27,000 goal.

Portland-based Zootility Tools, founded by Nate Barr, ended its campaign Wednesday morning with $90,000 raised from 2,314 backers for its pocket knife that fits in a wallet. The original goal was $20,000.
