Revenue from auto sales up this year

Maine auto dealers are reporting similar volumes of sales compared to last year, but the tax revenue of the sales is up 7% from last year.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Maine’s auto retail sales in the first eight months of 2015 totaled about $3 billion, up from $2.8 billion during the same period last year, according to data from Maine Revenue Services.

The president of the Maine Automobile Dealers Association told the Press Herald that the members are reporting flat sales.

Adam Lee, chairman of the board at Lee Auto Malls, told the paper that sales at the 20 locations in southern Maine were flat compared to last year, when the auto deal group saw record sales. It was the first time the group sold more than 10,000 new and used cars in a single year, the Press Herald reported.

“If you’re flat with the best year in history, it’s OK. But we want to do better,” Lee told the paper.
