Maine firms win awards for engineering excellence

Six engineering firms in Maine received awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Maine for work this year.

Kleinschmidt Associates in Falmouth received the top honor, the Grand Conceptor Award, for its work on a fish passage on the Menominee River, which borders Michigan and Wisconsin. Kleinschmidt provided the conceptual design, agency consultation, final design and construction support for the lift for lake sturgeon.

The engineering council also presented two Special Recognition Awards for Engineering Excellence. T.Y. Lin International’s Falmouth office was recognized for its work on the Brookfield Floating Bridge in Brookfield, Vt., and Becker Structural Engineers Inc. in Portland was recognized for it work on the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta.

Three firms received honor awards: Haley & Aldrich Inc. in Portland for its work on an addition to the Casco Bay Island Transit District Ferry Terminal Building; CES Inc. in Lewiston for its work on the Presque Isle Solid Waste Landfill Closure; and Freeport-based Baker Design Consultants for its work on the River Point Bridge Design-Build Project in Falmouth.
