METRO will hire ad agency to promote expanded service

The Greater Portland Transit District, known as METRO, is looking to increase awareness of public transportation and create a branding effort for a new regional commuter bus service launching next year.

The bus district is also planning on launching a GPS system next spring that will allow the public to see real-time bus location information. The extended bus service will connect Freeport, Yarmouth, Falmouth and Portland.

METRO is seeking proposals from agencies to develop a transit marketing plan and provide creative and design services. The work would include creating the brand and logo for the new services and advertising strategies for the product launch and marketing plan development.

The extension of the commuter bus service, expected to begin in May or June of 2016, was first announced in 2013, and the GPS location service was announced last year.
