Maine Preservation honors historic rehab and preservation projects
The Maine Preservation honored 16 historic preservation projects throughout the state at its annual awards ceremony last week, including the Press Hotel in Portland and the Mill at Dover-Foxcroft.
The organization also awarded David H. Bateman of Bateman Partners with the first Earle G. Shettleworth Jr. Preservation Champion Award. Bateman was recognized for 38 years of development projects, including one of this year’s honorees, converting Fort McKinley on Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay into a 44-room hotel.
The preservation organization said the recognized projects helped to fulfill community needs, while providing a boost to the economy and the real estate industry throughout the state. Ten projects honored used Maine Historic Preservation Tax Credits, which have helped fund 70 privately developed projects in Maine since 2008, bringing in more than $350 million into the state’s construction economy, according to the organization.

Nathan Clifford Residences in Portland
Unity Food Hub, Unity
Cony Flatiron Apartments, Augusta
Saco Firehouse Lofts, Saco
The Press Hotel, Portland
The Mill at Dover-Foxcroft, Dover-Foxcroft
Saco Island Apartments, Saco
Inn at Diamond Cove, Great Diamond Island, Portland.
