Sodexo chosen as new food service vendor for UMaine

The University of Maine System has announced its choice for the new food service vendor on six of its seven campus locations.

The France-based Sodexo Inc. has been tentatively chosen by the UMaine System following a more than six-month search after the university system announced it would be ending a decade-long contract with Aramark last year. Sodexo’s North American division is based in Gaithersburg, Md.

Sodexo has not only agreed to UMaine’s recent commitment to sourcing 20% of its food locally by the first year of its contract, it hopes to surpass that amount by 2020 with a goal of locally sourcing 25% to 30% of its food.

Also as part of its proposal, Sodexo has committed to investing $14 million in campus facilities and maintaining costs at or below current levels, according to The Bangor Daily News.

Contract negations between the food vendor and UMaine won’t begin for another four days, during which the other potential vendors will have a chance to appeal the decision.
